Song Lyrics

You know how when you hear a song, it just kinda' sticks in your head and you replay it till you hear another one? That's what was going on in my scraproom last week, because I was using song lyrics for journaling.

Cookin' Up Creations did a lyric reveal and I was given the verses from the song Summertime to do a layout around. Young love in the second line immediately brought to mind my son Rick and his girlfriend Steph and I just happened to have pictures of them on a recent beach trip. (I say happened because I snag all pictures that come into this house!)

And it's two bare feet on the dashboard
Young Love and an old Ford
Cheap shades and a tattoo
And a Yoo-Hoo on the floorboard

Perfect song on the radio
Sing along 'cause it's one we know
It's a smile, it's a kiss
It's a sip of wine, it's summertime

Steph left this weekend for college 6 hours away and before they left we went out to the river for a photo shoot. The photo in the layout is one of my favorites and it goes well with the song "Meet in the middle" by Diamond Rio. Steph just lives around the corner from us and there really are fence posts between her place and ours and we live on a gravel road!

It was 700 fence posts from your place to ours
Neither one of us was old enough to drive a car
Sometimes it was raining, sometimes it would shine
We wore out that gravel road from your place to mine

We'd gain alot of ground 'cause we both would give a little
And there ain't no road too long, when you meet in the middle...

The vertical lines in the layout were achieved by using ColorBok textured cardstock, measuring and scoring on the backside and then folding back, and sanding on the front. It was a technique that I had never tried before and I'd like to thank Bev @ Cookin' Up Creation's for providing a challenge to use the technique in. (I do love challenges!)

So this week it wasn't only the pictures that helped me create layouts but challenges, songs and great products from kits like Work In Progress and Scraptastic.

One more thing and then we can go flip some tunes and get maybe hear something to journal! Last week I did a small tutorial at What's Scrapping about how I did the layout with the transparency on it if anyone is interested in knowing. And while you are there, take alook around, it's a cute little place!

A much slower scrapping week.

I only got one layout done! (well, actually two, but I can't share the one with you yet because it's for a lyric reveal @ Cookin' Up Creation)

Once a week Sketch Inspiration posts a fresh new sketch. Once a week and on Sunday to be exact and at that same time they reveal the winner of the week before. The sketch called for a diecut shape cut for the background. I didn't have one out of the paper I would have liked it to be so I hand cut this one out of paper that I have had since 2007. Then I chose some pictures that I snapped of Angel while she was working at Culvers. Yep, went right in there just to take pictures of my girl. After she left, her boss asked her, "Angel, why was that woman in here taking pictures of you?" Angel just laughed and told her, "Oh that's just my mom! She loves to take pictures!)
