Namesake

Namesake....Ever since I started scrapbooking I've thought about doing a layout explaining where our son Rick's name came from...The time was this week for two reasons. I'm participating in the THAW (Three A Week) challenge at Willow Traders, and I'm working on getting pictures around for Rick's graduation open house. The challenge called for pictures at least 20 years old and both of these pictures are from the 1950's. The papers are from the wonderful club Transparent Touches & Tags, I love it!

"It's Really Happening....isn't it?" is what is going thru my mind alot these days...It just doesn't seem possible and yet here are the announcements that we ordered, and soon they will be addressed and mailed out. There's just no stopping time and that is just the way it should be. I felt this way when my oldest son Rusty graduated and I know I'll feel this way when the next two graduate also...

And the layout entitled Steve? My son's name is Rick and the dog is Sweetie and yet the layout is titled Steve? Steve was Rick's imaginary friend back when he was about the age that he is in the picture. As the journaling will tell you Steve went everywhere with us! Finally one day we were on a vacation in the UP and I said, "Oh look! Steve's dad is behind us and he wants Steve!". My husband stopped the truck, I opened the door, Rick said goodbye to Steve and that was the last we ever heard anything from/about Steve... Thinking back on this now, I'm not sure that was the best way to handle Steve but it seemed to work...
This was was also for the THAW challenge on WT and was to use a sketch from Nuts About Sketches.

I do love to scrapbook!

I'm still scrapping pictures from when my 18 year old boy was just a little one....These pictures bring back so many memories. He's such a different person from who he was then, that it's almost like he is two people.

The top picture shows him last year as a Junior when he and his friends used to go to a friends house for lunch every day and raid his fridge! These boys have been friends since they were about five, and I hope they continue the friendship into their adulthood.

The bottom picture is of the same boy when he was younger....he was my constant companion and sometimes it's hard for me to understand that he's really created his own life now.

The paper and embellies from both of these pages came from my favorite kit club http://www.scrapbooksussies.com. It is a kit but you can use the paper and embellies anyway you like and every lo from the kit can and will look different from anyone elses....

I thought the paper and embellies went really well with the pictures of my son Rick in 1994. When he was sleeping it was like he was recharging his circuits....

The second lo features my two oldest kids, there is nearly a 16 year difference in the boys...

The third and last lo is the first trip to the fair with our little one again in 1994.

When I scrap these younger day pictures, I have a hard time relating them to the strapping 18 year old that Rick is now or the man that Rusty has grown into being.

(I still haven't figured out how to put text between the pictures!)

A Good Day 2 B Rick

Well friends, it's been way too long since I've wandered over here to my blog, things have just kept getting in the way of sharing...computer moniter bonking out, then computer problems. Computer problems that "I" caused myself! I'm always telling people to be careful what they click on and then genius me clicks yes (I still can't believe I did this!) to the question of "Would you like to run the scan?". My computer was overtaken, even my virus protection!

But I do have to say that some of my busyness wasn't all bad (oh, I forgot to add to the above list the downstairs bathroom/bedroom flooding while we were gone...). Christmas was good and we've been attending alot of sporting events for Angel and Rick.

Rick has been wrestling for 3 years and has improved greatly! The layout that I did of his last Saturdays acomplishment says it all.... (and maybe someday I'll get a straight lo picture taken!)

This was for a recipe challenge at Willow Traders. Two pattern papers, 4 pictures and three embellishments. (I love the star paper behind my star!)

Alex's T-shirt quilt

Last night I took Tom and PK out the quilt that I made for them out of their son Alex's t-shirts. They were very very thankful to have it, and I felt good about being able to make it for them. I pieced and bound the quilt and a friend, Christine Nelson quilted it, and she did a terrific job!

I was hestitant to make the quilt when PK first asked me, but my husband Allan told me that if I only do one more quilt this one had to be it. I have told him thank you for convincing me to do it.

Have you ever listened to the song WHY by Rascall Flatts? I'd like you to click on the link and listen to it. From the first time I heard it, this song reminded me of Alex, right down to the reference to the tree in it.

Tom and PK have become very vocal in trying to stop bullying, and I pray that thru their efforts they are able to save at least one child. Every one in my family wears a brown bracelet in memory of Alex and on it is the words, Hear It, See It, Stop It. It's good advice and I hope you take it to heart and do just what the words say. Do it for Alex, do it for all the people that need you to help them.

Be nice, it matters....

Perfect Time For Scrapbooking!

Deer Season weekend! After loading up the truck with the boys (Allan and Rick) and food and what seemed like everything they owned, I headed to my scrapping room! There was a fantastic online crop going on over at It's Spraptacular with some fantastic challenges! Here are my finished layouts for the weekend, and even a little make n take from a recyled package!
